Discussion panel
Cultural action as a tool for social cohesion
Professional encounter with Dieynébou Fofana-Ballester, Senior Lecturer in Education Sciences
In a context marked by growing social divides and challenges of inclusion, and as public policies undergo shifts or even dismantling, we are launching a series of discussion panels aimed at current and future professionals in cultural action and the social sector. This cycle will serve as a collaborative reflection space on the role of cultural action in combating inequalities and exclusion.
For this inaugural event in collaboration with Dieynébou Fofana-Ballester and part of the HYPE OCC festival, we invite an exchange among field professionals, artists, and researchers, promoting a cross-sectional sharing of experiences and perspectives. This session provides time and space to discuss the concepts and actions implemented in our communities, highlighting obstacles, opportunities, and challenges encountered or anticipated.
Each session in this series will address a key theme, taking into account current political dynamics and social realities: How can culture create spaces for solidarity? In what ways is cultural mediation a driver of social cohesion? How can social inclusion goals align with those of cultural diversity and active citizenship? How might community projects respond to territorial equity issues (with a perspective on projects from other regions and countries)?
This event also aims to showcase innovative and inspiring local initiatives that respond to on-the-ground challenges and highlight the role of cultural action in building a cohesive society.
Open to all professionals engaged or interested in this topic, these sessions are intended to spark practical ideas for collaboration, strengthen synergies between culture and social action, and co-create inclusive and civic projects.
Join us on December 6 from 3 to 5 PM at Halle Tropisme (meeting room A) for this introductory meeting as part of the HYPE OCC festival, which actively works toward inclusivity for all, especially those often distanced from cultural offerings.
This encounter is held in French (sorry! The next encounter, of an international dimension, will be bilingual English/French). When registering, please indicate if you need French sign language interpretation or specific accessibility accommodations.
To stay updated on future sessions, please share your contact information.
[1] Dieynébou Fofana-Ballester is a researcher and Senior Lecturer in Education Sciences, focusing on the relationship between cultural action and its agents, territorial dynamics, and institutions.
This discussion series is presented by camin aktion, a production office and creative agency with a social solidarity focus, based in Montpellier. The organization’s work is rooted in values of social cohesion and cultural democracy, with significant initiatives like the sociocultural program #JeSuis, funded and operated by camin aktion, and the HYPE OCC festival, addressing gaps in cultural and artistic offerings in the Occitanie region.
