Dances rooted in hiphop culture stand out for their universality.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For over 50 years, since the emergence of this culture, hiphop has become a global phenomenom. Dance \u2014 one of the pillars of this unique artistic and social movement \u2014 draws from African, Latin, and diasporic traditions. Over time, it has expanded into an extraordinary diversity of styles and techniques.
<\/strong><\/p>\n

Other forms and aesthetics have grown alongside it \u2014 born in urban contexts or club scenes, often emerging from struggles and social oppression<\/strong>, carrying strong aesthetic and sociological identities. Electric Boogaloo, house dance, waacking, voguing, krump, styles born in Europe such as electro<\/em>, and across Africa and its diasporas with so-called Afro-urban dances\u2026 so many languages of movement, constantly evolving, yet all sharing one core element: the connection to music.<\/p>\n

Beyond style or technique, these non-academic dances reflect a way of seeing the world<\/strong> \u2014 a way of connecting to others, to sound, to the environment, to vibe with the universe.<\/p>\n

With HYPE OCC, we aim to showcase this diversity<\/strong> through performances that invite you \u2014 the audience \u2014 to discover new dramaturgies<\/strong> and new ways of experiencing dance: where the stage is not the only space of encounter, and where the line between dancer and spectator fades in favor of a fluid and inclusive approach.<\/p>\n

We invite you to meet this boundless creativity<\/strong>, to open your eyes to the unexpected, and to listen to the voices and movements of those from marginalized communities \u2014 for even though this popular culture is widely shared, it remains marginalized.<\/p>\n

HYPE<\/strong> OCC<\/strong> is also a growing network of organizations committed to supporting these aesthetics \u2014 with the shared desire to present a diversity of artistic creation to audiences across the Occitanie region \u2014 supported in this mission by DRAC Occitanie and the Occitania Region.<\/p>\n

HYPE<\/strong> OCC<\/strong> is equally an act of commitment to artists and companies from Occitanie-a: a platform of support and diffusion, a space for sharing resources, and a way to (re)ignite these aesthetics in a region that has seen many talents leave for lack of exposure and opportunity.<\/p>\n

HYPE<\/strong> OCC<\/strong> is a space for meeting, exchanging, dancing \u2014 for living the diversity and multitude of expressions and languages.<\/p>\n

HYPE<\/strong> OCC<\/strong> is a festival and a network of touring companies across Occitanie-a in October and November \u2014 from Foix to Perpignan, from Tarbes to Montpellier. 12 venues, in urban and rural areas.<\/p>\n
