A film inspired by Wanjiru Kamuyu\u2019s new solo work,\u00a0<span><em><a href=\"https:\/\/caminaktion.eu\/en\/immigrants\">An Immigrant&#8217;s Story<\/a><\/em><\/span> and her sensorial journey within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.histoire-immigration.fr\/wanjiru-kamuyu\">Palais de la Porte Dor\u00e9e<\/a> (The Golden Gate Palace) in Paris.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Born into a bi-cultural home (Kenyan American) and having lived on three continents (Africa, North America and Europe), Wanjiru Kamuyu is intrigued by each society\u2019s general relationship to and provocation around the image of the body.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-weight: normal;\">December 4th to 6th 2020, at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.palais-portedoree.fr\/en\">The Palais de la Porte Dor\u00e9e<\/a> in partnership with Th\u00e9\u00e2tre de la Ville-Paris, Wanjiru was programmed to present <em>An Immigrant\u2019s Story<\/em>. Through the lens of her personal migration from Kenya to France via the United States of America, interwoven with a collection of diverse migration stories, the solo examines the notions of displacement and otherness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-weight: normal;\">Despite the cancellation of the performances due to the health crisis, Wanjiru and the presenting partners desired to find a new medium to render the work visible. Thus giving birth to the film, <span style=\"color: #b43f16;\"><strong><em>La visite<\/em><\/strong><\/span> directed by Tommy Pascal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-weight: normal;\"><span style=\"color: #b43f16;\"><strong><em>La visite<\/em><\/strong><\/span> brings together elements of Wanjiru&#8217;s solo in resonance with the layered history of the Palais de la Porte Dor\u00e9e. The building constructed in 1931 for the International Colonial Exposition, was originally intended to be the Historical Museum of French Colonies.
