An outreach activity by The Place with Naïf Production

This is a chance to work with French artist Sylvain Bouillet | Naïf Production and his son Charlie (8 years old) and discover the journey behind the successfully touring, dance duet Des gestes blancs.

This duet evolved through workshops and exploration of movement and gestures which Sylvain and Charlie will share with London families.

The aim of the project is to create new spaces of encounters, different from our daily life, to be and behave playfully and openly with each other in the studio and to share what we create as part of the Family Dance Day at The Place on Sat 20 Jul.

Lifting and carrying (as part of a classical pas-de-deux) is an ordinary situation in a parents-child relation. Independent of the child’s age, it means mutual support. This physical situation leads us to a playful dimension and questions the notion of link and contact.

Through playing with contact and counterbalances we will explore how to develop a possible equilibrium between a grown up and a child.
